MALKERNS — Kwaito legend Kabelo Mabalane delivered a commanding performance on the Mainstage at the MTN Bushfire Festival.
The former TKZee member began his set with his golden oldies track, ‘Love me or leave me alone’ driving the crowd into a frenzy with his iconic hit and the audience singing the entire song word for word. Mabalane added more heat to the stage when he hummed his ‘Dubula Dubula’ track such that he felt overwhelmed by the response and handed over to the crowd to finish off his lines from the song.
The packed-out arena reacted with immense energy, singing along to every word of Kabelo’s timeless anthems. The performance quickly became one of the defining moments of this year’s festival, blending nostalgic high-octane rhythms with a deeply spiritual conclusion.
In an unexpected stylistic shift, the veteran musician transitioned from his energetic Kwaito catalogue into a powerful Gospel finale. The entire weekend on the Mainstage, there were different musicians and acts that had been on there but none as emotional as Kabelo’s. Before he rendered the Gospel soundtrack, he spoke a powerful testimony on how the Gospel had changed his life. “I just want us to take a moment and thank the Almighty for how good He has been to all of us. If it wasn’t for Him, my life would be a complete mess and that is how I know that He is a God that truly loves us all nor forsake His people. I was also a drug addict, but he managed to get me out of that life,” He said before he led the audience in a moving Gospel hymn, transforming the high-energy festival atmosphere into a shared moment of reflection and unity.
