WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were rushed out of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after a shooter opened fire.

DC’s biggest night of the year was plunged into chaos after shots rang out in the lobby of the Washington Hilton at around 8:15pm. The president and first lady were immediately taken to safety, followed by members of the Cabinet who were hauled over barriers by the Secret Service. The glitzy event was barely underway when a suspect armed with guns and knives stormed the hotel lobby. A source told the Daily Mail that Cole Tomas Allen, 31, is the alleged shooter. Terror erupted on Saturday night after Secret Service agents stormed the hotel ballroom, instructing everyone to take cover.

The president has since confirmed that a Secret Service agent wearing a protective vest was shot, but is in ‘great shape.’ The president has revealed what First Lady Melania told him just after bullets were fired in the Washington Hilton Hotel during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

‘‘It’s always shocking when something like this happens,’’ the president said at a White House press briefing in the West Wing within an hour of the violence.

‘‘The fact that we were sitting next to each other, the first lady on my right, and I heard a noise,’’ the president said, adding they thought ‘it was either a tray or a bullet.’ ‘‘I heard a noise and kinda thought it was a tray going down,’’ he said.
