MATSAPHA – Minister for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima has advocated for clean sport.
Minister Nzima was speaking during the official opening of the four-day regional workshop staged at Esibayeni Lodge. The Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) and Clean Sport conference started yesterday and will conclude on Friday.
This regional gathering is bringing together experts, educators and athletes to champion clean sport and nurture the spirit of fair play, which are key pillars of sport development in the region.
The conference is witnessed by dignitaries including Association of National Olympic Committees in Africa (ANOCA) Board Member and Head of Commonwealth Sports in Africa Colonel Botsang Tshenyego, Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (RADO) Manager Andrew Kamanga and African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region V Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Mutoya.
The workshop is facilitated by OVEP Facilitator from Lesotho Fako Masupha and Botswana’s Malebo Raditladi who is focusing more on the Safe Sport.
“It protects the integrity of competition, the health of athletes and the trust that fans place in the games they love. When doping or manipulation enters the field, the spirit of fair play dies a silent death and so, our collective duty is to guard it with vigilance and conviction,” Minister Nzima remarked.
The minister further revealed that his office was working towards introducing OVEP into youth programmes and school curricula.
