MBABANE - The Basketball Association of Eswatini (BASE) and Mbabane Jazz have congratulated Sifiso Nsibande for being appointed Judge President Industrial Court of Appeal.

The appointment of the permanent judges of Industrial Court of Appeal was made by His Majesty the King and Ingwenyama of Eswatini in accordance with the Constitution on Thursday.
The Chief Justice, Bheki Maphalala, in his capacity as Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), announced members of the bench of the Industrial Court of Appeal during a press conference at the High Court. The position of Judge President of the Industrial Court of Appeal of Eswatini will be held by the founding member of Mbabane Jazz, Sifiso Nsibande.
The Industrial Court of Appeal will now sit permanently and the judge president is responsible for its administration and that of the Industrial Court.

Educated

Reached for comment, BASE President Nhlanhla Maphanga said they were proud of Nsibande’s appointment. “This goes to prove that ballers are educated people. We are proud of him as an association and we want to congratulate him on his new position. We do hope that this will go a long way in inspiring the youth out there that they can balance up sport and also pursue their academic career,” Maphanga said. Meanwhile, Jazz President Fitzgerald Graham also shared similar sentiments. “We are happy for him as Mbabane Jazz. You know it is a very fulfilling feeling when someone you know personally gets the recognition that they deserve. I know Nsibande and he was my schoolmate back then and we want to congratulate him as Jazz,” Graham said. Meanwhile, Judge Nsibande said basketball and sport in general instil discipline if taken seriously. “That discipline comes in handy in pursuing education or whatever dreams one has in life. You can play sport and be successful professionally outside the sport,” he said.

Retired

He also revealed that he is part of the founding member of Jazz in 92/93 and retired somewhere from playing in 2000 or so. “I have been less involved in the team in the last few years because of work commitments but I will not be lost to the game,” he said. Some ballers who hold high ranking positions for reputable institutions include Elkan Makhanya, who works at Public Service Pension Fund, MTN’s Jordy Shiba, MTN’s Nomfundo Jiyane and Commision of Human Rights’ Linda Maziya to mention a few.
