MBABANE - Swaziland has received E1 million grant from the Government of Kazakhstan through the country’s Embassy in Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates.
The grant is in respect of support the Government of Kazakhstan received in bidding and eventually winning to host expo 2017.

This has been confirmed by Ephraim Hlophe, the country’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates who has forwarded the amount in question to the Ministry of Natural Resources in Swaziland.

“The actual bid was conducted in a meeting of the international Exhibition Bureau in Paris in November last year. The funds will be used for financing research in the area of alternative energy,” said Hlophe.

The Government of Kazakhstan will also sponsor the participation of Swazi delegates to the exhibition including payment of per-diems, transportation and accommodation.
The Minister of Natural Resources Jabulile Mashwama said she was not yet aware of the grant from the Kazakhstan Government.

“I am sure the ministry is aware, personally I am not. I suggest you call the principal secretary; it might happen he is aware,” she said briefly.
However, Principal Secretary Thembinkosi Stephen Motsa could not comment as said he was locked in a meeting.
