MBABANE – It has been revealed that former Mbabane Swallows Head Coach Christopher Ennin has officially entered the race for the Sihlangu top job.
Sources indicate that the Ghanaian tactician, whose most recent local stint was with Moneni Pirates, beat the deadline for the national team coaching applications by submitting his papers this past Friday. Ennin is well-acquainted with the Eswatini football landscape, having served tenures with Umkhonto KaShaka, Moneni Pirates and Denver Sundowns.
The source noted that he is now looking to make the step up to the international stage and disclosed that Ennin submitted his application through a local agent. “It is an open secret that Ennin has joined the race for the vacant Sihlangu coaching position and has submitted his application to confirm his interest in the job,” the source said.
The source also revealed that the coach is not expecting a salary exceeding the E100 000 region, as his main priority is to guide Sihlangu to qualification for a major continental tournament. “He is looking beyond just conquering the region,” the source added.
Meanwhile, Ennin confirmed his application and expressed his desire to secure the role, not for fame, but to help the squad compete effectively both regionally and continentally. “I want to change the perception that Eswatini does not play good football, because I know the country is blessed with talented players,” Ennin stated.
He remarked that his application to lead Sihlangu is not motivated by money; rather, his primary objective is to improve the team’s International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) rankings and qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a feat that has eluded the country since the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) was established in 1968.
“Should I be considered for the job, I will ensure that the players I select train twice a week. This will help them understand my philosophy so that by the time we enter a competition, they are a united front that can compete effectively,” Ennin explained.
