MBABANE – Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane, who was voted back as Eswatini Football Association (EFA) president, is officially back. 

Simelane returns for his second straight term to this position after he was elected from the 2021 election where he beat Mashumi Shongwe and Dr Comfort Shongwe.

This time around, it was only Mashumi and Samora contesting for the position.

The EFA Elective General Assembly held at Hilton Garden Inn, in Mbabane yesterday was electric, with the atmosphere thick with anticipation.

The room was so tense you could cut it with a blunt knife, but one man stood out as a picture of calm - Mashumi Shongwe. The latter looked relaxed, unfazed by the drama unfolding around him.

Meanwhile, Simelane’s brow was furrowed with concern, his eyes fixed intently on the proceedings.

Worry etched on his face like a map. The two were tied to 18 votes at 1:31pm. Things took a twist at 1:39pm when Simelane led the pack in the EFA Presidency race, boasting an impressive 27 votes, leaving Mashumi Shongwe trailing behind with 20.

The moment of truth finally came at exactly 1:42pm as the EFA Elective General Assembly reached its climax. In a closely-contested battle, Simelane emerged victorious, securing 27 votes to Shongwe who accumulated 21.
