MBABANE – Will newly elected Eswatini Football Association (EFA) executive member Aaron ‘Katalala’ Mavimbela be forced to relinquish his position with the Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane-led organisation?
This is the question facing the local football fraternity after Mavimbela’s name was announced among the candidates for the Vice-Chairman position of the Eswatini Women’s Football Association (EWFA).
At an event held yesterday at Sigwaca House, Phumzile Thomo, speaking on behalf of the committee’s Chairperson Magistrate Siphosini Dlamini, announced that the EWFA will hold its polls on August 31, 2025 at a venue yet to be confirmed.
Mavimbela was only recently elected to the EFA executive committee during the elective Annual General Meeting held at the Hilton Garden Inn last Sunday.
When asked about Mavimbela’s appearance on the list of candidates, Dlamini explained that he met all the eligibility checks for nominated candidates as per Article 7 and 8 of the Electoral Code of 2025.
“He will announce during the elections whether he stands for the position or not,” Dlamini explained, adding that Mavimbela would have 30 days to relinquish one of the positions should he be successful in the upcoming EWFA elections.
