MANZINI – The Eswatini Biggest Braai has once again demonstrated its remarkable ability to foster unity and togetherness, drawing thousands from all walks of life to the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre for its ninth edition.
With whopping sponsorships including E500 000 from Robertson’s Spice, E350 000 from Embiveni Meats and E35 000 from eBet Eswatini, among others, the event lived up to the expectations.
The Eswatini Biggest Braai is a charity event held annually to generate funds to aid in the running of Philani Maswati’s projects for needy elderly and children in Eswatini.
By 9am, the venue was already buzzing with companies setting up their stalls and marquees and getting their braai stands ready.
As has been the case in the past, the companies showed immense support for the event, as some had over 50 members of staff participating.
Dressed in replicas of their respective companies, the members of staff were in a vibrant mood, something which created a colourful atmosphere at the venue.
Their leaders, in the form of chief executive officers and managing directors, also joined in the fun and posed for pictures while enjoying the meat.
Some people, however, just used the event as a perfect outing as they came with their camp chairs and braai stands to just chill and enjoy the many activities, which included performances by some of the top artists.
It was at around noon when the start of the event was officially announced by Minister for Health and Siphocosini Members of Parliament (MP) who represented Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, who is the patron of Philani Maswati.
By that time, the vibe was already being felt as local DJs were rocking the turntables while traditional groups would now and again take over the stage.
The event proved to be a perfect platform not only for networking, but also for vendors, as many of them were allowed inside to trade.
Some of the attendees were excited to see the famous Khoisan, also known as Bushmen, as they walked around the venue posing for pictures while displaying their dance styles.
The Khoisan are indigenous people of southern Africa, who continue to live a nomadic lifestyle centred on hunting and gathering.
In history books, the Khoisan - referred to as Hottentots - are known for their unique click language and are considered one of the oldest populations in the world.
Before their main performance, the group was invited to the VIP area to entertain the dignitaries, who included Liqoqo Chairman Paul Dlamini, Minister for Labour Phila Buthelezi and Manzini Mayor Wesley Dlamini.
In the end, the ninth Eswatini Biggest Braai was a resounding success. Beyond the food and fun, it stood out as a celebration of community, culture, compassion and local talent.
The spirit of unity was palpable, making it a signature event that continues to inspire pride, generosity and nation-building.
