MBABANE – Thinah Zungu’s latest album features legendary Sipho Makhabane’s, old time track ‘The Devil is a liar’.
This significant union brings together the foundational power and industry experience of ‘Big Fish’ Makhabane with South African Gospel musician Thinah Zungu, reinforcing the genre’s strength through inter-generational partnership.
In an interview, Makhabane expressed his flexibility in collaborating with the rising artists, stating: “ I am a legend now and raising the young one, it is such a huge impact I see in me that some artists still can consider me as a rightful person to collaborate with in their songs and albums.
Even when I was considering to take a break from music in 2010, a lot of people were complaining that they were not getting what I give them anywhere.
“From 1988 I have collaborated with about 90 per cent of the Gospel artists, today I share the stage with grandchildren, it is a grace from above and I thank the people of South Africa for carrying me thus far. Even at 60 years now, I still have the energy and I will continue to push,” he said.
Makhabane, often credited as a major force not, just as an artist but as a producer and mentor in events such as Eswatini Gospel Music Awards and Mother of All Gospel Shows, has consistently used his platform to uplift and validate established talent.
His decision to collaborate on a new track with Thinah Zungu, who has established himself as a leading voice with SAMA-nominated albums and chart-topping singles shows inter-generational partnership and his continued act of supporting established Gospel musicians.
The new album, spearheaded by Zungu, showcases his continued growth as a songwriter and performer. The inclusion of a figure of Makhabane’s stature adds an undeniable weight and gravity to the project.
