Mel Mel, whose real name is Lindiwe Melissa Shabangu, is a woman whose background is rooted in a home filled with love, laughter and prayer. Raised primarily by her father, she credits him with shaping her into the person she is today.

“I even have a tattoo with my dad’s face on my arm”. Her upbringing instilled in her a strong belief in God and the importance of family.  Mel Mel describes herself as a businesswoman, a healer and a woman led by faith. She perceives her life’s purpose as helping others achieve their dreams, believing that God does not abandon anyone. “ I have also become a brand”

Currently, Mel Mel is engaged in spiritual guidance and selling skincare products. Her Moringa skincare line is produced by herself and is known for healing the skin. Her work is driven by a desire to nurture both the body and spirit.

Her journey into content creation began unexpectedly in 2023. She turned to TikTok as a creative and safe space during a period of boredom and isolation. “My first video that went viral was of Rose Water, that was a turning point in my life”. The video’s success gave her confidence to continue and she soon realised that her content had a healing effect on many viewers.

Her aim was to provide spiritual support and advice on life’s challenges. Mel Mel emphasises that her content is rooted in her faith and her belief in God. The platform opened numerous doors for her: “It landed me many business opportunities”. She attributes her success to a combination of divine intervention, strategic planning and consistency.

Mel Mel’s content primarily involves marketing and sharing real-life situations and struggles that often go unspoken. Her relatability stems from engaging with authentic issues that resonate deeply with her audience. Many followers appreciate her openness about topics that are often considered taboo, which fosters a sense of connection and trust.

For those contemplating starting a business in 2026, Mel Mel offers valuable advice. She advises aspiring entrepreneurs to surround themselves with successful people and seek mentorship.

“Before I started selling my skin products, I asked ABOUT challenges and opportunities from people in the same field and they assisted me”. She encourages learning through experience and focusing on personal growth rather than merely competing. Building a humble brand that reflects one’s values and mission is essential.

She stresses the importance of perseverance and continuous improvement, emphasising that one should not give up despite challenges. Proper branding and presentation are also vital in attracting the right opportunities.
