LOBAMBA – The Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) has rewarded Taekwondo artist Carlota Munave for bringing back a bronze medal from the ANOCA Games.

The Africa Youth Games (ANOCA) had been hosted by Botswana last month and the 16-year-old St Michael’s High School pupil was the only local athlete to reap a medal, and for her efforts she was presented with E1 000.
The presentation was on Sunday at the Olympic Day Run held at OlympAfrica Centre.

SOCGA Secretary General (SG) Muriel Hofer explained that this was a token of appreciation.
“The Olympic Committee makes it a point to recognise and reward excelling athletes who bring back medals from international assignments to which we send them. There are cash incentives of varied amounts for the various medals.

For bronze it is E1 000 and we therefore had to give it to Carlota in recognition of her effort and to show our appreciation to her for bringing back a medal for Swaziland,” she stated.

Meanwhile Munave was also presented with E250 as a token of appreciation by the Swaziland Epilepsy Organisation (SEO).
She said she was happy to have been recognised and she would look to utilise the money well.
