SITEKI - Most wanted alleged serial rapist Bhekinkhosi ‘Scarface’ Masina’s younger brother has been arrested for attempted rape.
On Tuesday last week the younger Masina allegedly attempted to rape a 15-year-old relative, at Mahlabatsini.
It is alleged that *Zama was alone at home with a three-year-old child when Masina arrived unexpectedly and attacked her.
It had been gathered that, just like his older brother ‘Scarface’, Masina has not been home for almost a year. He is said to have asked for water from the girl, who went inside the house to get it.
When she returned with the water, Masina is alleged to have demanded that she come closer to him.
The girl resisted but Masina allegedly grabbed her by the skirt she was wearing and tried undressing her.
However, Zama escaped and fled to a nearby homestead.
It is alleged Masina tried chasing her but later abandoned the pursuit.
Neighbours heard the young girl crying for help and came out to see what was happening.
It is said by that time, Masina had fled to a nearby forest. A search operation by community police was undertaken and was successful as Masina was found on Thursday.
He was then taken to the Siphofaneni Police Station, where he was arrested.
On Friday, he appeared before Lubombo Principal Magistrate Sibusiso Magagula.
Bearing a resemblance of his older brother ‘Scarface’, he drew people’s attention while being escorted by two plain-clothed police officers into the Magistrates Court.
Some people even shouted that ‘Scarface’ had been arrested.
Looking calm while standing in the dock, he elected to conduct his own defence when his rights of legal representation were explained to him.
He was not asked to plead to the charge of attempted rape as the Crown applied for a postponement so it could prepare evidence.
The matter was then postponed to March 2, 2012.
*not her real name.
Where’s your brother? — Principal magistrate
SITEKI – Principal Magistrate Sibusiso Magagula caused laughter when he turned to the suspect and asked him about the whereabouts of his brother Bhekinkhosi Masina also known as ‘Scarface’.
"Where is your brother ‘Scarface’, where is hiding?" asked the magistrate. "I do not know, since I have not seen him for quite some time now," he responded.
The magistrate had earlier asked where Masina’s guardian was, since he is still a minor.
Senior Prosecutor Mbutfo Mbingo responded, saying his guardian had refused to come to court since she was afraid of the accused. "Your Worship, his stepmother is afraid of the accused since he is also the brother of the most wanted fugitive ‘Scarface’," said Mbingo. ‘Scarface’ has been on the police most wanted list since November 29, 2011 following a string of reported rape and indecent assault offences he was linked to. Police are still searching for him and have even offered a reward of up to E15 000 for information leading to his capture.

#sigh. I wonder what moniker the media will give him. "Scarface's brother" won't give him the attention he probably craves
