NHLANGANO –There was drama at Sihle Dludlu’s funeral as one of the mourners cocked a gun before pointing it at another.

Dludlu is the man who was shot dead by the police on September 3, 2021 while at the Nhlangano Bus Rank. He was eventually laid to rest at his home at Emthombe, a place around Mahlalini in the Shiselweni Region yesterday morning. Mourners, who were in the premises of the homestead were seen running helter-skelter as the gun was cocked while the service continued inside the tent. It was alleged that the gun was pointed at a man suspected to be the one who gave police officers a tip-off that Dludlu was at the bus rank on the day he was shot. The man, it was gathered, was labelled a ‘snitch’ and further questioned why he had attended the funeral.

As the mourners were running for cover, some of them were shouting that one of them had cocked a gun and that the one accused of being a ‘police informant’ should run. Some questioned what the accused informant was doing there in the first place.  The noise attracted the attention of the family elders who then went to the scene to calm the situation. Meanwhile, there were relatives who spoke in anger as they asked how Dludlu died, stating that the police officer responsible would sooner or later face the consequences for what he did.

On a different note, during speeches inside the tent, there were those who spoke on behalf of friends, neighbours and family. They all described the deceased as someone who was loving and never quarrelled with anyone. It was said that the deceased never talked much. His father, Meshach Dludlu, said they were shocked that they had to experience the 1964 massacre (madlangengwenya). He appreciated the effort and the community members for the support but wondered how government was going to fix this.
The soil which the deceased lied on when he died was collected from the spot as it had his blood. During the funeral, it was poured inside the grave. There were over 300 people who came to pay their last respects to the late Dludlu.
