MBABANE – The Eswatini Rugby Union (ERU) has received a donation of 29 boxes of rugby equipment from SOS Kit Aid (KitAid), facilitated through the British High Commission.
The donation was formally presented by the British High Commissioner, His Excellency Colin Wells, two days ago, accompanied by the UK Foreign Mission. The handover ceremony was graced by a representative from the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC).
The equipment included grassroots playing jerseys, T-shirts, sports shoes and rugby balls.
It was received by the ERU President, Bandile Vilakati, who was accompanied by Head of Coaches and Development Expert, Steve Reynolds, and executive members Phumlani Gumedze and Simanga Magagula.
Vilakati said this equipment would support grassroots rugby development across the country and play a role in removing barriers to participation, enabling young players to train and compete safely, confidently and with pride.
“Beyond the physical equipment, the contribution fosters opportunity, empowers young people, and strengthens the core values of rugby, teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship, among Eswatini’s next generation of athletes,” he said.
Furthermore, the event was complemented by a Get Into Rugby (GIR) Festival, during which young participants showcased their skills, enthusiasm, talent and sportsmanship in front of an appreciative audience of fellow learners and spectators.
