MBABANE – Revealed!
Ubombo Sugar’s recently-appointed Head Coach Milton ‘Spanish’ Dlamini has been granted additional time by the club to address his coaching licence requirements.
The issue has prevented Dlamini from being part of the technical team on the touchline during matches, meaning he has had to direct proceedings from the stands.
When contacted by this publication to enquire about the club’s plans regarding the coach, Ubombo Sugar FC Chairman Gcina Ndwandwe explained that Dlamini is scheduled to sit a relevant course in February this year in order to obtain the required qualification.
“I’m told that the course will take place in February, according to the Technical Director (TD). We have also made several changes within the team, so we decided it was best to maintain our current setup. We are confident that Dlamini will undertake the course,” Ndwandwe said.
He clarified that the initiative is being driven by the coach himself, rather than representing a direct investment by the club or the company, particularly in light of questions about the club’s recent form in the first round of the MTN Premier League.
“I wouldn’t say the company or the team is making an investment; rather, he himself is willing to take up the course. He trains the team from Monday to Friday – it is only on match days that he is absent from the touchline,” Ndwandwe added.
Looking ahead, the chairman expressed hope that, once enrolment is confirmed, a provisional licence might be granted to allow Dlamini to operate from the touchline while awaiting full certification.
“February is not far off. We hope that once he has enrolled, a provisional licence could be issued to him as he awaits his certification – that would be preferable,” Ndwandwe continued.
