MBABANE – The 2025 8Bet Trade Fair Cup final is set to ignite Mavuso Sports Centre as Nsingizini Hotspurs face off against Green Mamba today.
With a whopping E630 000 prize for the winners and E320 000 for the runners-up on the line, the question gripping fans is: Who will claim the cash and the glory?
Ninety minutes should deliver a new champion after reigning champions Young Buffaloes were eliminated in the Last 16 by league returnees Malanti Chiefs, but if the scores are level, a penalty shootout will decide the winner. Their head-to-head record favours Green Mamba, who have won four of the last six league clashes.
The Correctional Services outfit, with three titles since the competition’s launch in 1984, are the battle-hardened veterans. Their finals record is fearsome, having clinched victories in 2001 (4-2 vs. Mbabane Swallows), 2003 (1-0 vs. Mbabane Swallows) and 2005 (0-0, 4-3 on penalties vs. Mbabane Swallows). When the Mamba strike in a cup final, it rarely falters.
Nsingizini Hotspurs, the revitalised underdogs who stormed into top-flight football three years ago, have their own pedigree. They pocketed the MoMo Cup in 2022 and 2023, proving that they thrive in high-stakes battles. Yet, the Ingwenyama Cup has eluded them, and it took them three seasons to conquer the MTN Premier League.
Green Mamba’s path to the final has been a master class. They crushed Manzini Wanderers 2-0 in the Last 16, edged Royal Leopard 2-1 in the quarter-finals and saw off Ubombo Sugar 1-0 in the semis, making them firm favourites for the E630 000 prize.
Nsingizini, meanwhile, have relied on penalty heroics, overcoming Manzini Sea Birds 4-2 in a semi-final shootout and Malanti Chiefs 4-1 in the quarters after goalless draws. A gritty 1-0 win over Tambankulu Celtics in the Last 16 kept their dream alive.
Adding spice to the clash, Green Mamba’s lethal striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa is in the hunt for the top scorer’s crown, sitting on two goals. With rivals like Manzini Sea Birds’ Muzi Tsabedze, Moneni Pirates’ Senanelo Nkambule and Royal Leopard’s Thokozani ‘Thikithi’ Dlamini out of the final, Ndzinisa has a golden chance to claim the E7 000 prize for the leading marksman.
