LOBAMBA — ‘Izinyoni Zolwandle’ played the ultimate role of party spoilers yesterday.
Manzini Sea Birds fought back to hold Nsingizini Hotspurs to a 1-1 draw in the final match of the MTN Premier League season. While the result put a slight dampener on Hotspurs’ perfect coronation, it did nothing to halt the euphoric post-match celebrations.
Before a sizeable crowd at Eswatini’s footballing Mecca, Somhlolo National Stadium, the champions finally hoisted their hard-earned trophy aloft. Champagne corks popped, confetti rained down and a thick blanket of green smoke filled the arena as the history-makers took their place at the summit of the domestic game.
Insingizi Yezulu finished an exceptional campaign on 65 points. Crucially, the crown secures their second successive ticket to the TotalEnergies Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League. Club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Banele Ngobe has already confirmed that the club met the strict registration deadlines to formalise their participation on the continental stage.
Meanwhile, Manzini Sea Birds wrapped up a historic campaign of their own. Finishing as runners-up on 56 points, it marks the highest league finish in the club’s history.
