MBABANE – Anticipation crackles across the four teams as the Ingwenyama Cup semi-finals loom, with organisers warning that limited tickets may vanish swiftly amid soaring fan demand.
Supporters have been urged to secure their seats early, with attendance potentially capped at 6 000 for this weekend’s clashes at the Mavuso Sports Centre. A full house could see gate takings swell to around E300 000, illustrating the competition’s enduring pull.
The Ingwenyama Cup, the country’s flagship knockout spectacle blending football with rich cultural heritage, carries a handsome E1.45 million prize purse. A new champion is guaranteed this year after holders Royal Leopard were stunned by Green Mamba in the last 16.
Green Mamba, known as ‘Inyok’eluhlazane’, renew acquaintances with Manzini Sea Birds in a familiar showdown, while the second semi-final pits former champions Young Buffaloes against an ambitious Nsingizini Hotspurs. The final is pencilled in for May 3, 2026 at the Somhlolo National Stadium.
Notably, this edition breaks recent tradition, with the ‘forces’ sides avoiding each other at this stage. Their last Ingwenyama Cup meeting in the 2023/24 campaign ended 1-1 before Green Mamba edged through 4-3 on penalties en route to lifting the trophy. An earlier 2019/20 last-16 tie saw Mamba cruise to a 4-0 victory on their way to another title.
For Nsingizini, this marks a maiden semi-final appearance following last season’s early exit to Red Rhinos, while Buffaloes arrive with defensive steel, having yet to concede a single goal in this year’s competition.
Ingwenyama Cup Public Relations Officer Nkosilenhle ‘Makawosi’ Masuku confirmed the ticket arrangements during a national radio sports show hosted by Siphesihle ‘Sihlabani’ Nxumalo.
“We encourage supporters to purchase tickets early as only 6 000 will be available. Once sold out, the venue will be declared full, so fans must act quickly to avoid disappointment,” he said, stressing that no tickets will be sold at the gates.
