(Louis won 4-3 on sudden death penalties)

NHLANGANO – Manzini Super League outfit Louis XIV left Nhlangano filled with pride after making history yesterday.

For the first time in the history of the Ingwenyama Cup regional competition, sponsored by the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF), a Manzini side lifted the title. This followed a tense sudden-death penalty shootout against Nsingizini FC which ended 4-3 in favour of Louis. The victory came after a goalless draw in regulation time, with the match heading straight to a shootout as per competition rules. For this win, Louis XIV are guaranteed E42 500 as the regional champions.

The exciting clash was held at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium in front of a sizeable crowd. Notable attendees included SMVAF Chief Executive Officer Khangeziwe Mabuza, Sports Portfolio Committee Chairman and Dvokodvweni MP Sifiso ‘Haizo’ Shabalala, Ingwenyama Cup MC Chairman Dr Comfort Shongwe and EFA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu.

On the pitch, Andiswa Hlanze tried to spark his side into life, but Bhekumusa Simelane stood firm in his way. At the other end, Oyo Fakudze fired over Nhlakanipho Mngometulu’s crossbar. Despite several chances created by both sides, the match remained goalless at the interval.

As play continued in the second half, Nsingizini substitute Lungelo Nhleko missed a golden opportunity from Kwanda Dlamini’s neat pass in the 65th minute. Meanwhile, Nkhosinomusa Masuku saw his effort saved in the dying minutes of the match.
