MBABANE – MTN Premier League rookies Tabankulu Celtics Chairman Mduduzi Msibi has cleared the air on his link to relegated Manzini Wanderers.
Reports across different platforms had suggested a takeover of the ‘Weslians’, who have just suffered their first relegation in their 69-year history. There were further reports of a possible status swap that would rescue Wanderers.
However, Msibi, who guided Celtics to a ninth-place finish in the 16-team league, has clarified his position, stating that he remains committed to the Lubombo-based side. He did, however, confirm receiving an approach from an unnamed Wanderers official.
“Yes, someone called me. He wanted to arrange a meeting; I think it was early last month, but there has been no formal meeting as we speak. We are busy preparing for the coming season,” Msibi said.
Wanderers Communications Manager Sandile ‘Ntofo’ Dlamini also distanced the team from the reports.
“There is no team with which Manzini Wanderers have agreed - or even had a discussion - to buy a Premier League status,” he said.
Msibi, who is based in South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province, has spent over two seasons at Celtics, guiding them to their maiden promotion to the Premier League.
Celtics took the Premier League by storm, claiming big scalps at their Tambankulu slaughterhouse. Inspired by marksman Malangeni Dlamini (15 goals), powerhouse Royal Leopard were among their high-profile casualties, crashing to a 3-0 defeat.
