MBABANE – The long-standing partnership between Buy ’n Save Spar and Enjabulweni School continues to flourish.
This follows the announcement of an increased sponsorship package of E60 000 for the upcoming 10th edition of the Enjabulweni Mountain Bike Race.
This year’s contribution marks a significant E5 000 boost over the previous year’s funding, solidifying the event’s status on the local cycling calendar ahead of its scheduled start on May 9, 2026 at the school premises in Manzini.
The race is designed to be inclusive of all abilities, offering a variety of distances including 2km, 5km, 10km, 20km and a more demanding 35km route for seasoned riders.
During the official launch, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Chairman Sabelo Mabuza expressed his gratitude to the headline sponsor and those providing essential water points and race support, noting that the event has grown steadily as it enters its third post-pandemic instalment with a core mission of promoting health awareness and youth development.
Mabuza encouraged the community to register in large numbers, emphasising that the day offers a prime opportunity for both young and old to compete for prizes and test their mettle on the trails.
Johan Leus, representing the Buy ’n Save Spar executive team, reiterated the company’s commitment to community wellbeing and healthy living, urging the peloton of participants to enjoy the spirit of competition.
Adding to the call for participation, Eswatini Cycling Association(ECA) President William Kelly highlighted the immense effort required to organise such a technical MTB event and urged schools to formalise cycling as a sport to ensure a steady stream of talent reaches the elite ranks.
Kelly noted that with many veteran cyclists retiring, the involvement of schools is vital to cultivating the next generation of champions, ultimately thanking Spar for their continued investment in the growth of the sport.
