MBABANE – The sixth edition of the popular Alphsz Border to Border annual cycling event was officially launched yesterday.
The event was unveiled at the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) headquarters, where title sponsors Alphsz announced an unchanged E100 000 sponsorship for the 2026 edition as it was last year.
Alphsz Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thandiwe Nxumalo, who launched the event, said the company aims to promote health and wellness among its clients through cycling, while supporting national sporting initiatives.
“We are proud to be part of this important event in the country. We look forward to the day when a cyclist from this race wins the Eswatini National Sports Awards,” Nxumalo said.
She concluded her remarks by unveiling a replica cheque for E100 000, alongside Alphsz Director Sharon De Sousa and Chairperson Dumisile Ngwenya.
Meanwhile, Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) President William Kelly described the Border-to-Border as more than just a race.
“This event is about unity as cyclists conquer 240km across the nation, starting from Ngwenya Border Post through Manzini and finishing at Lavumisa,” he said.
Kelly added that Eswatini has the terrain to host world-class cycling events, but needs better structure, safety measures and support to fully realise that potential.
He noted that the race is also helping to put the country on the international cycling map.
The president thanked all sponsors and partners for their continued support. The event is also backed by the Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA) and the Eswatini Road Safety Council.
Registrations are now open, with over 100 cyclists already having signed up for the June 13, 2026 challenge.
