EZULWINI – AlphSz were crowned champions of the second leg of the KFC/Pick n Pay Business Golf League, held at the Ezulwini Golf and Country Club yesterday.
The tournament saw 36 teams compete for the title, supported by a sponsorship package valued at E80 000 according to organisers’ representatives Kevin Zwane and Wakie Lawrence. The clubs took to the greens early in the morning, battling through the day. The presentations concluded the day’s activity around 4:30pm, with AlphSz emerging victorious on 69 points. This saw them dethroning First National Bank (FNB), who had claimed the top spot in the first leg.
FNB remained competitive, however, finishing a close second with 68 points. The third position was secured by the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) with 67 points. Meanwhile, a tense finish saw the Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) Team Two and the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) tie on 66 points, with ESRIC Team Two taking the fourth position following a count-back.
Sabelo Gama, who paired with Sifiso Nxumalo to steer AlphSz to victory, said they arrived at the course with modest expectations.
“We came here today not expecting that we would walk away as victors. We are proud of this achievement and are determined to maintain this momentum and dominate the remaining legs of the league,” Gama said.
