MBABANE – Enough is enough.
The struggles facing MTN Premier League side Manzini Wanderers are far from over, as new reports confirm that the players have collectively boycotted the club’s activities.
The maroon and white hub giants, who recently made national headlines after their players were chucked out of their Fairview clubhouse in Manzini over unpaid rent, are now facing an even deeper crisis of player unrest.
A source close to the Gcina Dlamini-coached side alleged that the players did not take part in yesterday’s training session, as they are demanding improved welfare from the club’s management.
“The players have boycotted training,” the source alleged.
The source further claimed that the players are threatening to boycott upcoming league games if their salaries are not paid.
“The players also want answers as to who is the club’s director, as they need clarity on a number of issues, including their welfare,” the source added.
The source asserted that the players’ situation has become so dire that fans have been contributing towards their basic welfare, such as buying food.
“Without these issues having been addressed, the players are threatening to leave for greener pastures. The players want their clearances if their issues of salaries and food are not resolved,” the source stressed.
An official who commented on condition of anonymity confirmed the allegations that the players have since boycotted the club’s activities.
“They called me and informed me that the players didn’t take part in yesterday’s training session as they demanded answers on the leadership of the club as well as salaries,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the Weslians’ Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mongi Simelane, said he had not yet received any formal information about the developments.
