MBABANE - The protracted and bitter institutional war for the soul of capital city giants Mbabane Swallows has taken another devastating turn.
This follows a reported complete collapse of conciliation talks intended to broker peace between the club’s warring factions.
A formal press statement issued by Mbabane Swallows FC President Absalom Ngwenya confirmed that the proposed dialogue aimed at resolving the explosive governance impasse between the football club’s traditional sporting wing (Mbabane Swallows FC) and its corporate arm (Mbabane Swallows Pty Ltd) has completely broken down before the parties could even convene around a negotiating table.
According to the official communique, the discussions collapsed after the corporate entity, Mbabane Swallows Pty Ltd, presented stringent ‘conditions and demands’ that the club’s executive deemed entirely impossible to accept.
The breakdown marks an agonising setback for thousands of the club’s loyal supporters, who had pinned their hopes on an amicable out-of-court settlement to restore the stability of Eswatini’s oldest and most decorated football institution. The administrative civil war stems from a complex structural divide over whether the club should operate as a traditional voluntary association or as a privately-controlled company.
This structural fracture intensified significantly following the tragic passing of the club’s iconic former Chairman, Victor Gamedze, after which competing factions moved to seize the reigns of administrative and legal control.
While the PTY wing claims exclusive trademark protections and legal rights over the historic name and branding under commercial statutes, the FC faction maintains that the outfit remain a community-owned asset that cannot be treated as private estate.
In his scathing press statement, President Ngwenya reiterated that the voluntary association faction has consistently shown an open willingness to participate in constructive dialogue to safeguard the best interests of the ‘Birds’. He accused the opposing faction for failing to match public declarations of peace with concrete administrative actions.
