MBABANE - Uncle Waffles has broken barriers after becoming the first female Amapiano DJ in history to have four songs each surpassing 20 million streams globally on Spotify.
According to ‘The Table Chart’, her viral anthem Tanzania has now joined ‘Zenzele’, ‘Yahyuppiyah’ and ‘Wadibusa’ in that exclusive club, a record-setting feat that confirms her as one of the most dominant forces in Amapiano’s global expansion.
Born in Eswatini, Uncle Waffles started her journey as a TV presenter before finding her rhythm behind the decks during the 2020 lockdown. Her career took off in October 2021 when a video of her performing in Soweto went viral, instantly transforming her into a global internet sensation.
With her fierce mixing, energetic performances and signature style, she became the face of a movement, a young woman reimagining what Amapiano could look and sound like.
Her debut single ‘Tanzania’, released in March 2022, was the game-changer that introduced her sound to the world, blending sultry vocals with infectious Amapiano basslines.
What followed was a whirlwind of global performances. Between 2022 and 2025, Uncle Waffles toured across continents, lighting up dance floors in London, New York, Paris and Lisbon, where she headlined Afro Nation Portugal, a performance that cemented her as a global stage mainstay.
She later headlined London’s O2 Academy Brixton, Paris’ YOYO Club and Brooklyn Steel in New York, all sold-out shows that proved Amapiano’s universal pull.
In 2023, Uncle Waffles made history as the first Amapiano DJ to perform at Coachella, taking South African House rhythms to one of the world’s biggest stages. Her Coachella debut became a defining moment, a full-circle celebration of an artist who had gone from township mixes to California’s desert mainstage.
