In the heart of Mbuleni, Kwaluseni, a young boy of 11 years old found himself captivated by the rhythmic cadence of spoken word.

Inspired by a cousin’s profound love for the art form, Nkosinathi Sandile Nxumalo began a journey that would eventually see him transformed into Msandi Ka Baba the Poet.

What originated as a simple childhood interest gradually intensified into a powerful passion, shaping not only his identity but also a lifelong purpose. In his formative years, Nxumalo recited the works of established poets, yet by the time he reached high school, he was already penning his own verses.

His poetry quickly matured into a vital voice for social awareness, “addressing issues such as HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, and national developments, including events like the census,” His talent for composition led to invitations to perform at significant official functions, including the openings of major companies and institutions.

A definitive turning point arrived through the encouragement of his teacher, Mr Duma, who urged him to take his craft seriously and believe in his capacity to reach the highest professional echelons.

These words of wisdom inspired Nxumalo to refine his artistry and pursue excellence with a renewed sense of determination.

Driven by a core passion for promoting Eswatini, its culture, traditions and Their Majesties, he released his first single, ‘Maswati Lamahle’, in 2008. This marked the formal beginning of his artistic contribution to the preservation of national heritage.

As the landscape of 2026 unfolds, the artistry and public persona of Msandi Ka Baba have evolved from a traditional grassroots approach to a multidimensional creative force.

His repertoire has expanded to include tributes to transformative national and regional projects, such as the SADC founding fathers and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

Today, his performances often feature a full live band, allowing for a deeper connection with his audience. “. I have also just finished recording a special tribute for the ICC a project to be realised soon”

Embracing digital platforms and global collaborations, his role has shifted into that of a cultural ambassador and mentor. His appointment as a Brand Ambassador for Eswatini Mobile and Eswatini Embiveni Meat Industries underscores his commercial and cultural relevance.

Furthermore, his collaboration tour with Hillsong London worship across East Africa, including performances in Kampala and Nairobi, provided an experience he describes as being beyond measure. This international exposure reinforced his belief that dreams are attainable through hard work and inspired him to push the boundaries of his creative reach.

Global Ambitions and Mentorship

Currently, Msandi Ka Baba is immersed in several new poetry projects spanning local, regional and global levels. With 30 years of experience in the industry, his primary focus is directed towards elevating his craft to unprecedented heights. He harbours the ambition of becoming one of the world’s leading poets and is actively striving for global recognition, including a potential place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

However, his vision extends beyond personal accolades. “I feel a profound responsibility to mentor emerging poets, demonstrating that a committed career in poetry can unlock significant professional opportunities.

His current work serves as a testament to the power of self-expression and the importance of leading by example.

He intends to prove that with unwavering commitment, the art of poetry can transcend borders and create a lasting impact on a global scale.
