In the quiet valleys of Qomtaba, a new kind of entrepreneur has been brewed.
Lindokuhle Mukelo Mtshali, a first-year Business Management student at Limkokwing University, is proving that a smartphone and a bit of wit can be just as powerful as a corporate degree.
Known to his followers for his hilarious sketches and versatile characters, Lindokuhle’s journey from a rural security guard to a sought-after content creator is a masterclass in resilience and digital savvy.
Born in Qomtaba, Lavumisa, Lindokuhle’s roots are firmly planted in the soil of Lubuli.
Raised by his grandmother, he credits his upbringing for the grounded personality he maintains today. “I was raised by my grandmother who taught me to be respectful and humble,” he says, reflecting on the values that anchor him despite his growing online fame.
Before the likes and shares, Lindokuhle’s world revolved around the football pitch. Like many young boys in his neighbourhood, he spent his afternoons playing street football with friends.
However, a developing eye condition forced him to hang up his boots prematurely. While the loss of the sport was a blow, it inadvertently cleared the path for a different kind of performance.
After completing his Form 5, Lindokuhle took up a job as a security guard at the Lavumisa solar plant. It was a period of transition, a quiet chapter before the noise of university life and the viral nature of the internet took over.
Last year, his acceptance into Limkokwing University marked a turning point, providing him with the platform to merge his business studies with his creative instincts.
The spark for his digital career was ignited by a single video. When his first ‘reel’ garnered 7.4k likes, the sheer volume of positive feedback was impossible to ignore. “The comments were encouraging me to do more of the videos,” he recalls. It was the validation he needed to take the craft seriously.
What sets Lindokuhle apart in the crowded world of Eswatini social media is his chameleon-like ability to inhabit different personas.
He records every idea that comes to mind, frequently swapping characters to keep his audience engaged. His most popular iteration, however, is a comedic female character. “I change characters now and then, but I think being a woman in my skirt is my favourite character,” he laughs.
There is a striking irony to his online presence. On screen, he is vibrant, loud and fearless. In person, the mask drops to reveal a reserved young man.
“I’m shy and quiet in person, but I’m loud in my skirts,” he admits. This duality is something that often catches his fans off guard. “They would be surprised that I’m actually a shy person off camera,”.
Despite his comedic exterior, Lindokuhle approaches his work with the precision of the businessman he is training to be. He is acutely aware of the digital landscape and the risks of ‘cancel culture’.
He avoids political or controversial topics, preferring to keep his feed a space for lighthearted entertainment. He possesses a keen ability to ‘read the room’, knowing exactly when to weigh in on a trend and when to remain silent.
His mental fortitude is perhaps his strongest asset. In an era of cyber bullying, he remains unfazed by trolls. “I’m mentally strong such that even if you can say negative comments about my condition I wouldn’t be offended,” he says.
