MBABANE - Days before the G20 Women’s Shutdown against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), Eswatini-born media personality and actress Amanda du Pont has announced a donation of E100 000 to WFC.
The shutdown is expected to bring women together for a 15-minute standstill at 12pm on Friday on the eve of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, to honour the 15 women murdered each day in the country. Through her skin care brand Lelive, Amanda contributed E100 000 to the organisation, stating in a Facebook post, Lelive stands with women always.
‘‘South Africa and countries around the world are turning purple in solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence and femicide, and to demand real action from our leaders.
‘‘As a women-founded brand, our team is made up of people who live this reality in their homes, friendships and communities. This is not just a campaign moment for us it’s personal we are contributing E100 000 in support of #womenforchangesa, one of the organisation’s leading national action and advocacy,” the post quotes. Amanda Du Pont’s message stated: “I just want to acknowledge that this happens across all genders and to children as well. There are some incredible men behind the movement, so we are no longer standing alone and we welcome our entire community to stand with us.
To whoever has been affected, we stand and fight for you too,” she said.
The movement is calling on women and members of the LGBTQI+ community to withdraw their labour both paid and unpaid for the day, refrain from spending money, and participate in a 15-minute standstill at noon to honour the estimated 15 women murdered daily in the country.
