Inefficiencies at government hospital pharmacies
Inefficiencies at government hospital pharmacies
Thursday, February 26, 2026 by Sabelosemantolo Fakudze, patient

Madam,

Thank you so much, madam, for acknowledging my letter to hospital management and the Ministry of Health and for noting the complaints from us patients.

The pharmacies open late at 9am., take a tea break from 11am. to 11:30am, lunch from 1pm. to 2pm and close the pharmacy windows at 4:00 p.m.

One is really amazed at the late opening and early closing. Patients are suffering and struggling in this hospital. Where is the Management and the Senior Medical Officer to correct this abnormality?

When patients complain about the long waiting time at the hospital pharmacies, the pharmacy staff argue that they have a great shortage of pharmacy staff.

Another issue is that many drugs are out of stock; patients wait to receive out-of-stock notes.

Suggestions:

  • The Ministry of Health must advocate for the recruitment of pharmacy technicians.
  • Stop the on-call shift and replace it with 8-hour shifts.
  • Improve drug procurement; the hospital is still experiencing a great shortage of drugs.
  • Proper supervision should be intensified.
  • Improve punctuality at work and remove this undeserved notice. They should follow the example of the Eye Department doctors, who are punctual at work.

Thank you.
