EZULWINI - The Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) has announced plans to undertake a comprehensive State of Communications Sector Study for the 2025/26 financial year.

This is aimed at assessing the performance, competitiveness and readiness of the country’s communications sector in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

According to the Request for Proposals (RFP) released by the regulator under reference number ESCCOM/EMD/001/2025–2026, the commission has allocated funds for the project, which will form the basis for evidence-based regulation, policy recommendations and future investment decisions across the telecommunications, broadcasting and postal sub-sectors.

ESCCOM said the study is critical to providing a clear snapshot of the sector’s current state, including market structure, competition levels, consumer trends, access to communication services and the overall regulatory environment.

The commission emphasised that the findings will guide strategic interventions to enhance digital inclusion and ensure the sustainability of Eswatini’s communications industry.

The proposed assignment will assess the performance of service providers, the penetration of emerging technologies, pricing trends and the impact of regulations on innovation and market dynamics.

It is also expected to analyse Eswatini’s digital infrastructure capacity and benchmark progress against regional and international best practices.
