MALKERNS – Invincible police outfit, Royal Leopard will be participating in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederations Cup.

Much against expectations, the quadruple champions have shunned the Champions League despite the fact that they also qualify to partake in what is regarded as the continent’s premier competition.
National Police Commissioner Isaac Magagula said after careful consideration, they opted for the Confederations Cup.

He was speaking during the team’s quadruple celebrations held at the House on Fire yesterday afternoon and attended by more or less 500 guests who included Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruser’ Ngcamphalala, Acting PS Maswazi Shongwe and Ngcamphalala’s predecessor Hlobisile Ndlovu.

Also present was the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa, Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chief Operations Officer (COO) John Mazibuko, senior police officers and other invited guests.
“By winning the MTN League and the SwaziBank Cup, Royal Leopard FC has qualified to compete in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup respectively. Having considered the domestic obligations and the costs that come with taking part in the Africa competitions, a decision has been taken that the club will participate only in the CAF Confederations Cup.

“We, therefore, take this opportunity to appeal for support from government, companies and sporting structures to ensure that we are able to participate. We will not be joining the competition as Royal Leopard but we will be representing the country as a whole,” Magagula said.

Leopard rewrote the local football history pages when they swept the boards to be crowned the first quadruple champions in a remarkable season they will no doubt treasure for a very long time.
