MBABANE – Retained Sihlangu’s Belgian head coach Valere Billen will also retain his E100 000 mo-nthly salary.

The Belgian, arguably the most unpopular coach to lead the national team Sihlangu in recent times, is expected back in the country next week.
He will not get an increment. However, this has got nothing to do with his performance since taking over the reigns at the national squad just over a year ago.

National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu declined to reveal Billen’s salary when reached for comment yesterday. He, however, confirmed that they were expecting him to arrive in the country sometime next week. “Obviously money issues, especially salaries, are always private and confidential matters between the employer and the employee.

I would really not want to dwell much on the salary issue. I can instead confirm that we are expecting him back in the country next week. “He will immediately get down to serious work because when one looks at it closely, the squad does not have enough time to adequately prepare for the African Nations Cup Qualifiers, which are billed for October,” he said.

Mngomezulu assured the soccer loving fraternity that the association will do its utmost to ensure that the squad is in the right state to compete effectively during the qualifiers. “September should be Sihlangu’s busiest month because there are a couple of FIFA dates where the squad can play international preparatory games. We will strive to ensure that we utilise each and every available date to prepare the squad ahead of the qualifiers,” Mngomezulu said.

He acknowledged though that it will be extremely difficult for the squad against tougher opposition, especially during the qualifiers, which will be played in about two months from now.
Billen has had a nightmarish reign since taking over the squad, failing to capture the imagination of the soccer lovers.
