TAMBANKULU CELTICS FACE SUSPENSION, E20K FINE
MBABANE – National First Division (NFD) side, Tambankulu Celtics face suspension on top of a E20 000 fine for not honouring their opening round fixture against Red Rhinos.
The game was supposed to be played at KaLanga Technical Centre outside Siteki, this past Saturday. It was abandoned, as the opponents were nowhere to be seen.According to Article 4.21 of the 2024/2025 MTN NFD Rules and Regulations, if found guilty Celtics can be liable to fine on top forfeiting three points and the same number of goals to the opposition. A guilty verdict can further come with suspension of not more than three months.
“Any club walking out, refusing to play a match or refusing to honour a fixture duly issued by the PLE and/or whose fan(s), supporter(s), official(s) invade the field of play and/or throw missiles/objects into the field of play, which would result in the match officials stopping the game shall be deemed to have caused the abandonment of the match, and shall, if found guilty of such an offence shall lose the match, with three (3) points and three (3) goals awarded to their opponents, and a suspension of not more than three (3) months imposed on them plus a fine of not less than E20 000 by the disciplinary committee (DC),” reads Article 4.21.
A well-informed insider, on condition of anonymity, said the team still needed to sort internal challenges. Speculation was rife that the team could be put up for sale but that had not happened at the time of compiling this report. Notably, Celtics finished in the top three of the MTN NFD standings after amassing 46 points from 26 games.
