PHIWOKUHLE BREAKS MANZINI PARKRUN RECORD

MBABANE – The Manzini Parkrun ladies record which was set by Tracy Rankin was eventually broken by Mbabane Parkrunner Phiwokuhle Bulunga on Saturday.

The record of 22:23 minutes was set on August 20, 2022. It took almost 10 months for the record to be smashed as Bulunga completed the 5km route in a time of 21:17 minutes and in the process setting a new ladies’ record for the Manzini Parkrun. This was the upcoming athletes’ new all-time personal best. This was also Bulunga’s first time running at the Manzini Parkrun.
She was also celebrating her 25th milestone run and her statistics are 25 runs and the same number of first place finishes since she started the parkrun journey in Mbabane.

Bulunga began her journey at Manzini Parkrun on August 27, 2022. The second lady home was Tracy Tsungo, who recorded a time of 45:10 minutes; this was her fifth parkrun at the hub.The third position went to Nosipho Dlamini, who completed her first parkrun in a time of 54:42 minutes. Completing the top four was Victoria Nxumalo, who recorded a time of 55:07 minutes.

Meanwhile, in the men’s section, Mbabane Parkrun’s Mfanukhona ‘Mahlombe’luhlanya’ Mhlanga failed to break the record of 15:48 minutes, which was set by Mancoba Nhlabatsi on January 21, 2023. The veteran Golden Foot athlete and Mbabane Parkrunner was the overall winner, as he finished the course in a time of 19:15 minutes. Taking the second spot was Ronny Mawelela, who recorded a time of 20:09 minutes. Coming third was first-timer, Sandile Mavuso in a time of 20:29 minutes. On the other hand, there was no activity at the Mbabane Parkrun this past Saturday as they made way for a big golf tournament which was played on the day.
