MBABANE – In a bid to heighten their preparations ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, Lesotho and Eswatini will engage in friendly games.

This was disclosed by Lesotho Football Association (LFA) on their Facebook page yesterday. “The Lesotho Senior National Team, Likuena will face Eswatini’s Sihlangu in a training match on Thursday (today) at 3pm, as the two countries fine tune their preparations for the upcoming TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations,” reads the press release. Likuena are preparing for their back-to-back matches against Zambia to be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium and Dobsonville Stadium on March 23 and 26, respectively. Eswatini, on the other hand, will play Cape Verde in back-to-back fixtures between March 24 and March 28, this year.

Unavailability

The match will be played at LeFA’s Technical Centre at Bambatha Ts’ita Sports Arena. Like Sihlangu, Likuena are to play its category ‘A’ international matches in South Africa due to the unavailability of Setsoto Stadium. The venue has been suspended from hosting international matches. “The LeFA leadership invites Basotho to come and watch the match for free as this could be their last chance to watch Likuena on home soil until Setsoto Stadium has been upgraded to meet international standards,” read the last part of the press release. Meanwhile, effort to reach comments from Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe proved futile, as he said they were not aware of the practice match.
He said he only knew Sihlangu were in camp training.
