MBABANE – “Long distance runners will get international exposure in 2023.”

These were the remarks of Athletics Eswatini (AE) Chief Executive Officer (COO) Thoba Mazibuko who said long distance athletes should also get the opportunity to represent the country in international tournaments. “We hope next year will be an even better year. We will have youth and junior championship in April in Zambia; World Championships in Budapest in July; and hopefully our athletes will continue doing their best and working hard,’’ he said. He went on to encourage all the clubs to continue working hard in 2023.

Meanwhile, National Athletics Coach Muzi Mabuza admitted that there was a lot of work to be done in the long distance category. “We need to put these athletes who are competing in long distances in competitive races. Right now, they are only competing locally. What also is a big letdown is that most clubs are focusing on the short distances which lead to the long distance runners being neglected,” he said.
