MBABANE – It is now two big companies that have joined hands to ensure Eswatini Television Authority (ESTVA) delivers on broadcasting the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar next month.

Eswatini Mobile was first to partner with the television station last month by pumping in over E190 000, as reported by our sister publication, Eswatini News Sports. The support will see the station and the mobile and telecommunicatios company also having fan parks screening the football games in Qatar as they unfold.

Through a press release by the station yesterday, renowned fast-food outlet, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Eswatini has also injected money into the initiative, also joining in as yet another partner. The press release titled ‘Eswatini Mobile and KFC Eswatini inject over half a million towards the live broadcast of FIFA World Cup and Fan parks’ affirms the latest.

The opening fixtures will see hosts Qatar take on Ecuador at 6pm before three more fixtures the next day including England against Iran and Senegal against Netherlands.

Initiative

“The national broadcaster has, therefore, taken the initiative to host fan parks nationally, which basically, seek to target soccer fans and sport fanatics to be part of the football fest. KFC has also joined Eswatini Mobile to sponsor the broadcast of these dazzling games as to make sure emaSwati have the privilege of watching the matches,” read the statement by the station’s Communications Officer Nompumelelo Dlamini. The station and its partners anticipate having the fan parks in various areas around the country and these fan festivals will be hosted with the aim of making it more fun and friendly by partnering with other corporates and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to create more entertaining and family friendly parks.
“Among other activities, we are looking forward to live concerts and performances from local artists, games and other forms of entertainment,” she said. The national broadcaster further invited emaSwati to come and experience ‘our entrance free fan parks’ aimed to provide visitors an inclusive, special and highly emotional way to watch this year’s World Cup games. However, the figures were not revealed at this juncture, particularly from KFC Eswatini.
