EZULWINI – It is all good news for the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) as it will be renewing its contract with MTN Eswatini.

MTN Eswatini has been sponsoring the Premier League since 2003 and a three-year contract signed in 2018 worth E18 million expired in June. Part of the sponsorship also caters for the National First Division League. The good news was announced  by MTN Eswatini Brand, Communication and Sponsorship Manager Lando Dlamini yesterday during a media breakfast meeting. Dlamini said they were optimistic that the package would increase despite the tough economic times.

Concerning

She said further details concerning the sponsorship would be revealed during the launch. “We are still finalising few logistics including the package, prize breakdown and internal approvals,” she said. The mobile telecommunications giant, MTN Eswatini, has already invested nearly E50 million in the PLE since the launch of the first package of E300 000 in the 2002/03 season. In the past three years, it was E6 million per season from the E18 million launched four years ago. The MTN Premier League is expected to kick-off mid-September after the PLE annual general meeting (AGM) billed for the end of August. The PLE AGM has been delayed by the fact that the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) will have theirs on August 21. The PLE will have its AGM after the FA general assembly.

Struggle

The PLE’s struggle now will focus on the knockout tournaments as they had been absent for two seasons. The knockout tournaments are the EswatiniBank Cup, Ingwenyama Cup and the Eswatini Telecom Charity Cup. The Charity Cup is also expected to return, but a sponsor is yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, Dlamini announced that they were hoping for the return of the Khemani Cycling Race between September and October. It was last hosted two years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
