MBABANE – A ‘Pirate’ is gone.

Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) side Moneni Pirates’ General Manager (GM), Brian Magagula is no longer with the club. It has been reliably gathered that he handed in a resignation letter last week to one of the top officials in the team. “It was his decision not that there was any conflict or anything, at least that I am certain about,” said one of our impeccable sources. Magagula’s resignation is said to have come at a time when the club was in a bid to get a new director after struggling last season. Our sources said the club even appointed a certain committee to scout for a director. It is understood the club’s supporters will be meeting soon to discuss a way forward after a relegation scare in the past season.

Pirates are one of the clubs that had challenges paying salaries to their players consistently, which even led to now Mbabane Highlanders head coach, Ernest Mavuso, taking them to court and winning the case to be paid E200 000 a few months ago. “It’s true Magagula resigned. He asked to take a break but it’s always best to get the comment from him, that way I’d be happier,” responded lawyer and team official Osborne ‘Ozila’ Nzima. Nzima is not just the club’s official but also its legend, having donned their famed black and white kit during the ‘Sea Robbers’ good days when they were still a fierce side and counted among the big clubs in Eswatini. While Nzima affirmed the resignation of their GM, efforts to get comment from Magagula proved futile. His cellphone was not available on the network despite several attempts while he also had not responded to texts sent to him through WhatsApp.

Magagula was in charge of the Pirates ship as GM last season as the club struggled, playing to the last game to be cleared of relegation. Other than the past season, Magagula is a long-serving member of the team’s management as he was in and out for over a decade. Meanwhile, Pirates finished the season with coach Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini and Zenzile Mpofu. Ace made it clear after their last match at Mavuso Sports Centre against Highlanders that a lot needed to be fixed or their struggles would continue into the new season. He had said that while it was good to survive relegation, the club had a huge task to fix its ship.
