ALLY’S WIFE FOR WANDERERS
MBABANE – They have allegedly run back to Mbabane Highlanders’ South African boss Chief Ally Kgomongwe again – this time the target is his one of his wives.
It was only last year that the hub side got so desperate and approached Kgomongwe to assist them land a director among his business compatriots in Pretoria where he is based – it was the same issue of salaries that were unpaid for over seven months as it continued even after the games were halted by COVID-19. They received around E75 000 to boost the players in that one month before it was back to square one. With the same issue up and running again, players going on strike twice in two weeks ahead of league games, but somehow managed narrow 1-0 wins before the season ended, it has been gathered from impeccable sources that they are back ‘talking to Ally over a businesswoman he is very close to. “It’s someone very connected to Kgomongwe so it means they’re back talking to him for his assistance and as always, he’s open to helping them land someone who can assist the club with the financial challenges they often experience,” said one of the sources.
salaries
It is no secret that Wanderers were unable to pay players and the technical bench’s salaries for May and June on time, only to pay for a month towards the end of July. Their monthly wage bill was E167 000. The club had to offer each player E1 000 to have them return to training on one Thursday afternoon ahead of a league win against Tambankulu Callies at Mavuso Sports Centre. In the previous win against Milling Hot Spurs, they had trained one day only. Interestingly, the players and their coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe were confident they would win the match despite all the financial challenges and inadequate preparations in those two weeks. This continued for a month at the club. “While we may not name the likely director now, she’s a woman and a successful businessperson just like Kgomongwe,” said an impeccable source. Kgomongwe was sought on the latest news, but was at first coy and diplomatic in his response. “What is true is that we can’t watch a big team like Wanderers suffer. I know I tried helping them last time and they’ve already approached me again, but I can’t be involved like last time.
“I know they’re after one of my wives who has her own businesses and it’s her decision to take the club or not. I’ll be with Mbabane Highlanders,” Kgomongwe affirmed while saying that it should be understood that businesses suffered a lot due to COVID-19 so Wanderers’ struggles must be understood despite their South African Director Cedric Mashile Matete being there and having signed for five years with the hub side. Wanderers Director Sandile ‘Chief’ Dlamini said he was in a meeting when sought for comment. Nonetheless, the matter in question was still put through to him and his response was that this was ‘not the platform’ for it.
Reports
The club’s PRO, Mlungisi Ndzinisa, asked not to commit himself, especially because his superior had already been reached. “What I know is that we were in South Africa last week to submit reports to Matete’s personal assistant as we plan for the upcoming season,” Ndzinisa said. He insisted on not commenting about the behind-the-scenes moves to get a new director or directors. He had also recently insisted that Matete declared he would soon be over his fiscal challenges and was ready to see his five-year contract through. No immediate comment could be obtained from Kgomongwe’s targeted wife at the time of the report. However, efforts for an interview with her are being made.
