JOHN WINS CAPTAIN GOLF DAY TOURNEY

MBABANE – Veteran golfer John ‘Nyakanyaka’ Dlamini was the ultimate winner of the Captain Golf Day Tournament.

The tournament was specially played in honour of Manzini Golf Club Captain Wakie Lawrence, who was celebrating his 49th birthday on Saturday. A total of 29 golfers from across the country participated in the one –of-a-kind tournament and nine outstanding golfers took home electrical appliances and cutlery as prizes.

The champion scored 39 points as well as runner-up Elliot Nkambule. Ben Simelane fell into the third position after netting 38 points while Willie Stewart came in fourth with 37 points. ME Dlamini accumulated 35 points while Banzile Nhleko and veteran golfer James Nhlengetfwa recorded a tie of 35 points. Female golfer Nosimilo Kgomo made the cut and settled for position eight with 33 points and Evan Groening was recognised for the longest drive. Lawrence, who is originally from Algeria, thanked Manzini Golf Club members for welcoming him and making him feel at home.

“Being a foreigner in another country is not easy because of cultural differences. I am happy to have met some good friends on and off the golf course. “What I have learnt is to treat everyone equally no matter what we have done on earth, so no one person is better than the other,” said Lawrence. He further said the Captain Golf Tournament was one of the best birthday gifts.
