MBABANE – Catch the biggest bass or tiger fish and be guaranteed to walk away with E10 000.

The fifth edition of the annual Lusip Monster Fish competition, born in 2017, will be held in November. The one-day fishing competition, which takes place at the Lubovane Dam at Siphofaneni, has been extended to three days, starting on November 12, ending on November 14, 2021. Registration opens on September 10 and interested individuals can register on www.lusipmonsterfish.com. Online registration costs E650 and E750 on the day of the event. This competition is supported locally and internationally. This being an environmentally friendly competition, no netting is allowed and fish are released back into the dam after weigh-in. Participants stand to win lucrative cash prizes on top of bragging rights.

The runners-up package in each category is E2 500. The champions for the juniors’ categories per specie pockets E500. The host, Robert Forbes, said the competition did not only give people an opportunity to relax in solitude but also created job opportunities for emaSwati who assist in the organisation and coordination of the event. “The fishing competition is a perfect time for like-minded people to compete in a fishing competition, socialise, unwind and relax. It is a chance to free the mind from all distractions of everyday life while enjoying the beauty of nature in Eswatini,” he said.

Fundraiser

He further said the event functioned as a fundraiser to help the underprivileged community of Siphofaneni and surrounding as they have donated food, shoes and clothing in previous events. “Every year we carefully select a community-based organization to support. This year we have chosen the Eswatini Anti-venom Foundation. We want to assist the EAF by raising funds which will be used to purchase anti-venom, a drug that saves both limbs & lives! “Join us at our fundraiser for a fun run and book for the Snake Handling and Awareness Course. Bring some pennies for the flea market and come see the snake show,” he said.
