MBABANE – Gone but not forgotten are Mhlume Peacemakers.

The Lubombo-based team from Mhlume may have lost its elite status through relegation, which was confirmed last Saturday during the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Annual General Meeting (AGM) but they still attract sponsors. Interestingly, they have not just received sponsorship but reunited with a sponsor  they always had while known as Gandaganda and Peacemakers. They had bought a status from Matsapha United to bring back Mhlume Peacemakers which is also one of the reasons they got sponsorship worth E30 000 per season for three years. “We got presented with two sets of jerseys by New Holland Tractors, who are based here in Mhlume and they will do this every season. The director, Mr Beneker, is an old man in Mhlume from the 1970s so he knows this great club and was happy to reunite with us.

gesture

“His gesture will certainly go a long way in motivating the players every new season as we fight to regain our elite status in the first division next season. We will also be receiving a set of 20 soccer boots from him every season,” BoGandaganda’s PRO Bheka Magagula affirmed. The company Director, Sean Beneker, confirmed the gesture when questioned about it.

motivate

“I’m doing this to motivate the club and because Peacemakers are an old club that I have known for a long time having been in Eswatini for 67 years now. I know all the top teams and I understand the local game. I had been sponsoring athletics here but because it got tougher crossing the border now I decided to do it for football for the next three years. Because of COVID-19 it’s going to be for three years then we’ll see where we are,” he said.

restructuring

Beneker said Peacemakers were a big club and he was not new to supporting them but because the club had its own transformation or restructuring that resulted in a change of name some years ago. Peacemakers will be playing in the National First Division League next season after failing to cheat the axe. They went down alongside Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows.
