MBABANE – The name Glody Lilepo Makabi is familiar in local football – he is a former Mbabane Swallows striker.

Lilepo was loaned to Swallows in the 2018/19 season by AS Vita who had a good relationship with the former’s slain boss, Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze. He happened to return to his team and also come face- to-face with former rivals in the local football arena, ensuring that he had a game of his life against them in the CAF Champions League.

He was named Man of the Match on the day after netting a second half brace within three minutes in the 76th and 79th minutes.

stinging

He beat Buffaloes goalkeeper and Captain Nhlanhla Gwebu with some stinging shots from the right side of the box while the first goal came from Filston Kalala (first goal) and Jeremy Mbuyi (last goal).

Striker Phiwa Dlamini pulled one back for Buffaloes to make the second leg score 4-1 and 6-3 on aggregate as the first leg finished 2-all in Manzini a fortnight ago. Lilepo was given a 9.5 out of 10 rating by his team’s Facebook page as he changed a slow first half performance to a man of the match performance. Despite scoring, he also had a hand in the other two goals. However, he never enjoyed the same success during his stint with Swallows.

continues

Buffaloes are now out of the CAF Champions League, but the journey continues only in the CAF Confederation Cup now and will know their opponents tomorrow.

This is also where the likes of Orlando Pirates are participating, but had Buffaloes progressed to the Champions League group stage, they would be with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and further be guaranteed a cheque of around E9 million in the group stage even if they were to end there.
