GIVE DOMINIC A CHANCE – PAPIC

MBABANE – The current national team Sihlangu players are dominated by the same team Serbian coach Kostadin Papic used.

However, Papic, who coached Sihlangu for one year until he left last December, has called upon emaSwati to give newly-appointed head coach, Dominic Kunene a chance. The latter, along with assistants Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini and Anthony Mdluli, named their new squad on Monday as published in this newspaper yesterday.

The squad mainly is the same team that Papic used for most of his time here since January last year, with just a few new faces in the likes of Mbabane Swallows’ duo of Sizolwethu Shabalala and Nhlanhla Ngwenya, Denver Sundowns’ Felizwe Vilakati, Moneni Pirates’ Mthunzi Motsa, Mbabane Highlanders’ in form full back Simphiwe Manana, Green Mamba’s Sanele Chauke and the gifted Njabulo Tfwala.

“Every coach has his own philosophy,” responded Papic to the question of the newly called-up squad being dominated by his then players.

Continuing with his response, he said: ‘‘You will see what will happen in the future and you will be in a position to compare.’’
Asked to be clear on his statement, he said Kunene deserved to be given a chance and time to work with his team without anyone rushing to compare the current squad with the one he used last year. However, Papic, who was reported to be among applicants for Zambia’s Chipolopolo coaching job, would not respond on what he was currently doing or if he had other plans.

Meanwhile, Kunene and company have the African Nations Cup (AFCON) 2021 Qualifiers and the COSAFA Cup to guide Sihlangu this year.
