MBABANE – Swim Lab club will invade the Mpumalanga Championships to be held for over three days in Nelspruit, South Africa.

The club will be represented by 15 swimmers being eight boys and seven females. The three days championships will start on Friday with the last day Sunday. Swim Lab Coach Welcome Nhlabatsi announced the team yesterday. He said the team is expected to be joined by senior swimmer Simanga Dlamini who is currently attached at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria, South Africa. Dlamini is in a two weeks camp where he is preparing for 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games. Dlamini is expected back home on Thursday and then leave with the team for Nelspruit the following day.

Competition

“As a club this competition has become one of our big competitions to attend .We always look forward to attend this gala since it’s a long course pool and we do not have any long course pools in the country. Another reason we feel that as a team we no longer have competition locally as our 11 year olds are getting competition from 18 years olds. As a club we now want to do a lot of out of the border galas so we can get competition,” he said. Nhlabatsi said swimmers have been hard at training and he is positive that they will win a number of medals from the competition. Last year Hayley Hoy won the trophy for best visiting female swimmer that she has won for the past four years and Luca Fraser who won the best visiting male swimmer will not be present to defend the title as he will not be able to make it due to other commitments.
