MANZINI – The Ingwenyama Cup is four years old but is proving influential, and is hugely supported by the nation.
It is a soccer knockout tournament that blends regional and elite football with culture – all at competition level and it cannot go unnoticed.

Prince Hlangabeza, who is the Chairman of the Ingwenyama Cup, remarked during the prize presentation on Wednesday night at Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre that the tournament had grown beyond them as its overseers.

“Bayethe, if you started this tournament as a pilot project, then the truth is it has grown, and is even bigger than us now. The excitement and crowd in the stadiums showed that even when you announced increased prizes for culture and football, the nation was excited and supported the tournament.

“This tournament is a great dream and the King can feel free and keep dreaming big about it because it has good support and unites the nation through football and culture. We believe that very soon this will create jobs as we see it already happening in other countries,” he said.

He emphasised that when the King forks out money, it was not because there was nowhere else to spend it but he likes and wants to ‘see all his people’ busy with something. He said it was important that country retained its cultural values and this was just the platform for the nation to showcase their pride about their nationality.
