MBABANE – Local coaches have predicted Young Buffaloes marksman Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze as the EswatiniBank Cup player of the tournament.

He has been without doubt phenomenal for Buffaloes to inspire ‘Amathole Ezinyathi’ in clinching the 16th edition of the EswatiniBank Cup and he is one of the favourite players to be named the player of the tournament.

Manzini Wanderers head coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati said ‘Saviola’ was definitely the deserving player to get the award.
“That Gamedze boy has seriously given you everything to say he is the player of the tournament. He has made assists, was very good in marking and scored those important goals for Young Buffaloes. I think this was his year,” said Vilakati.

Experienced Vovovo head coach Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini shared the same sentiments.
According to Dlamini, Gamedze had given all for Buffaloes to win the 2019 EswatiniBank Cup and was always the difference in highly-contested games.
“When the team was stuck, he would find a way to help them play. He knew when to score and would always find that crucial goal for Buffaloes when they could not score,” he said.

Dlamini added that the player’s mental strength was in another level compared to his teammates and other local players.
“He complements the team and it complements him in reverse,” said the coach.
tricky
Sihlangu assistant coach Velekhaya Mthethwa said it was a bit tricky for him to say which player was likely to get the 2019 EswatiniBank Cup player of the tournament award.

“As a national team coach, when that particular player is selected to the national team, people will remember this prediction and think that he is my favourite and therefore selected by favour not merit,” said Mthethwa.

Moneni Pirates assistant coach Mduduzi ‘Nyama’ Shongwe was also in favour of Gamedze when asked to predict the player of the tournament.
“Definitely Sandile Gamedze, in all moments he decided Buffaloes’ games. In the semi-finals of the tournament against Manzini Sundowns, he was the decider of the match,” said the coach.

Coach Penuel Malinga differed with his prediction and said he was aware that he would probably differ from other coaches’ predictions.
The former Manzini Sundowns mentor predicted that this year’s EswatiniBank Cup player of the tournament award would go to Gamedze’s teammate and Buffaloes captain goalkeeper Nhlanhla Gwebu.

“I will tell you my reasons, I look at the way he conceded, the saves he has made and his leadership to give confidence to the rest of the team,” said Malinga.
Manzini Sea Birds and Sitsebe head coach Anthony Mdluli said he could be biased if asked to predict due to the fact that he had not watched many games of the tournament. He said making a prediction would be unfair as he had not watched both the semi-finals and the final.
